Why you should ... read A Little Something Different
.
A book review, yay!
category: books
title: A Little Something Different: A Swoon Novel
author: Sandy Hall
release date: 28th August 2014
A swoon novel. I know what it sounds like. And it basically is. But it a little something different. This book is a love story told by neither main characters nor narrator but all the other minor characters (friends, professors and the lot). And not only friends and family members and professors and bus drivers but also a squirrel and a bench. Yup, a bench. And according to this bench, Gabe apparently has a very nice butt (fun fact, right?).
It's a love story set in college. Lea and Gabe, both freshmen (I think), both really shy, seem to fancy one another. They have similar interests, they understand the same references when it comes to films, they order exactly the same chinese food and they find themselves in the same creative writing class where the professor tries to be a matchmaker whenever she can.
The cover is cute and romantic, matching the style of the book.
I have read both positive and negative reviews but all of them agree in one point: it doesn't go into much depths. But really, is that what you expect when you look at this book and read the blurb? The title could perhaps mislead there because it is not so much different from typical romance novels but the way it is told is pretty much unique (well, not exactly unique but rare and I don't think squirrels and benches get to share their opinions in books like these very often).
A little something different is a cute, romantic and adorable book, perfect for a quick read in between (although sometimes I really just wanted to smack both Gabe's and Lea's heads together and make them kiss already but it wouldn't be much of a story if it happened that fast).
